Staying Fit While Sheltered

By CBH Coach Gabe Querol:

During this time where we are not able to gather as JOAD clubs or archery organizations, it is especially important to keep our archers engaged in the sport to the extent we are able.

Our JOAD team leadership has stayed in contact with our archers at least a couple of times a week, with videos and emails from coaches. We touch on exercises, form and the mental game. We’ve also extended an invitation to our shooters to submit video for analysis. Werecognize that not every archer will have a place to shoot arrows, so even submitting video with a stretch band Is encouraged. The piece of software we’ve used for video analysis is Hudl Technique. It has some challenges, but it’s free and useful.

Here are a couple of examples of what we have put out there for our archers.

Coach Gabe: Posture
Coach Heather: JOAD At-Home Exercises

Coach Gabe: Hudl: Example “Hudl” Video Analysis

While these specific examples are good, I’d encourage every team to make their own and communicate with their coaches and archers to stay fit and ready.

And, here are USA Archery’s thoughts about things your club can do during the COVID-19 shutdown.

If you, your team, or your club have ideas to share, please pass them along and I’ll add them here and into the next newsletter. -Tony
