As a taste of the competition being done this summer in Brazil, we’re holding a full day of head-to-head archery competition as a singles and pairs competition.

The themes of the event are to give you the experience of the international archery competition format right here in Illinois.  But we also want everyone to have a chance to have fun.

The basic event will be a 360 ranking round, followed by a head-to-head single elimination tournament.  Time and participation permitting, we will then hold a pairs team head-to-head single elimination tournament.

Because we want everyone to enjoy their archery instead of struggling against their equipment, we will try to accommodate archers who are having difficulty reaching their required distance.  Please contact me once you have pre-registered if you or your coach feel you will not be able to reach your distance.  We will attempt to move you one distance closer (with a minimum distance of 30 meters).

It’s Three Tournaments In One!

Format

Arriving at 8:00am, with the first arrows flying at 9:00am.  Then we’ll do Ranking, Singles Head-to-Head, and Pairs Head-to-Head

Ranking

We will begin the day with a 360 Round for ranking at your nationals metric distance (see below).  Then we’ll take a break to rest and use those scores to seed a head-to-head tournament.  We will not be issuing JOAD or AAP pins, but this round will be timed and formatted for coaches who accept pin scores from other events.

Singles Head-to-Head

Archers will then compete head-to-head in the Olympic Round elimination format.  Recurves and barebows will do 3-arrow ends using the Set System.  Compounds will use four five, 3-arrow ends with cumulative scoring.

The groupings for these eliminations will be a bit ad-hoc depending on the mix of participation.  We will be grouping primarily based on equipment and distance, not age and gender.  So the plan is to group the 70m recurves together — women, men, juniors, etc.  And to group the 50m compounds together.  (We may end up flighting the 50 meter compounds by age or score, since nearly all compounds are at 50 meters).  We will attempt to group based on the distance you ranked at.  We want everyone to have a chance at head-to-head competition.  If we need to make a combined group out of shooters who ranked at different distances, we will do the eliminations at the shorter distance.

We will then take another break for food, awards, and resting.

Pairs Head-to-Head

Those intrepid archers who want to continue are encouraged to pair up at their distance and we will hold a pairs team head-to-head elimination tournament, seeded according to each pair’s combined ranking round score.  Each pair will shoot a total of six arrows (3 each), and elimination will be done according to the Set System (recurves/barebows) or Cumulative Score (compounds).

It will be best to work out your pairs before the day of the shoot, to help make this part of the day move along more promptly.

The time required for this day of shooting will be unknown, but likely significant.  The event is only a few days after the summer solstice, though, so we will have almost the maximum amount of daylight possible.

Rules

This is a non-sanctioned experimental event.  Most standard USAA archery rules apply (arrow size must be 23xx, etc), but there is no organization membership requirement.  Shooting in blue denim is discouraged, but not enforced.

• PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT.  YOU CAN PRE-REGISTER BELOW.
• Arrive at 8:00am for bow setup, equipment inspection, and pairs team sign-up
• Arrow size must be 23/64 inches or smaller in diameter
• Every shooter is equally eligible for awards
• There is no shade at this facility.  It is recommended that you bring your own.

Awards

Awards will be given for each of the three sections of the tournament.

Location

Strictly Archery has partnered with the Joliet Park District to use the fields at 640 Mission Blvd., Joliet, IL.  This is just off of I-80 near Joliet Junior College and there are numerous food options nearby.

 

Registration

Our previous registration system has been retired.  Registration is now over here at ArcheryEvents.com.  This, among other things, allows for online pre-payment.  The cost for this event will be $30.00.

If you were born in 2004 or more recently, you are a Bowman
If you were born in 2002 or 2003, you are a Cub
If you were born in 1999, 2000 or 2001, you are a Cadet
If you were born in 1996, 1997, or 1998, you are a Junior
If you were born between 1967 and 1995, you are a Senior
If you were born between 1957 and 1966, you are a Master 50+
If you were born between 1947 and 1956, you are a Master 60+
If you were born between 1937 and 1946, you are a Master 70+

For this event, there is no masters distinction beyond 50+
